A key player in the significant upgrade project for the Norne vessel
Harstad, August 30, 2023 – Polarkonsult, a Harstad-based consulting firm specializing in innovative ship design and maritime engineering services, is proud to announce its significant role in the extensive upgrade project for the Norne vessel, in collaboration with Equinor and Aibel Harstad.
An important milestone within the maritime industry:
The recent installation of a new, state-of-the-art crane on the Norne vessel marks an important milestone in the project. The crane, weighing 140 tons, was transported by one of the world’s largest lifting vessels, “Thialf,” and represents a vital part of the vessel’s extended life program. This program is intended to prolong the Norne vessel’s operations until at least 2030, through a series of sub-projects involving the replacement of equipment that has reached the end of its lifespan.

The mission, valued at over 100 MNOK, has already led to the creation of 15 new engineering positions in Harstad and represents a significant Northern Norwegian footprint. Polarkonsult alone expects to strengthen its staff with two structural engineers initially, with prospects for further recruitment in the coming year.
