Workshop with the Energy Department - Focus on Quality, Learning and Efficiency
Published: September, 23nd 2025
“Greater focus on planning and clarify the client´s need early in the process”
This week, Polarkonsult hosted an engaging workshop led by Oddgeir Johansen and Markus Helfjord Unstad-Rolandsen. The theme was how training videos should be designed to ensure optimal learning, efficiency, and understanding – with particular emphasis on how pedagogical principles can be implemented in documentation and training materials.
Polarkonsult currently delivers system operating manuals and procedures, training videoes, and 3D illustrations – including for major projects such as Johan Castberg and Snøhvit Future. The aim of the workshop was to improve delivery processes, develop shared routines, and ensure a unified understanding between customer and supplier.
“It’s about avoiding tunnel vision and constantly considering what is necessary and what is sufficient. That way, we avoid spending more time and resources than actually needed. A key takeaway from the workshop is that we must place even greater focus on planning and clarify the client’s needs early in this part of the process,” says Oddgeir Johansen, Senior Advisor at Polarkonsult.

Energy team in action
The day began with an introduction by CEO Thomas Myhre, followed by professional contributions from, among others, Oddgeir Johansen and Bendik Nymo, along with ongoing discussions and reflections. In the final part of the day, participants worked in groups to discuss what is important in the different phases of video production, as well as potential areas for improvement. This resulted in many good ideas and lively discussions, which were later summarized in a joint review – a highly valuable arena for knowledge sharing.
“When we share experiences and test solutions together, we become more aligned and can deliver with higher quality. This creates benefits both for our customers and for us as a supplier,” says Markus Helfjord Unstad-Rolandsen, Project Manager at Polarkonsult.

The Road Ahead
The workshop gave participants valuable insights into both working methods and tools. The discussions also highlighted the need to explore which new solutions could further strengthen the processes. An important step forward will be to apply more pedagogical approaches in both documentation and training materials, ensuring that end users gain better learning experiences and can more quickly acquire the necessary competence.
Moving forward, Polarkonsult will continue to work in a structured and targeted way with the proposals raised, and assess how processes, tools, and pedagogical principles can be implemented in our working methods.
