development <\/span><span lang=\"en-US\">project focused on the application of Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) in predicting ship resistance.\u00a0<\/span>This milestone marks a step forward in ship design and marine engineering.<\/p><p>Our own Adrian Pavel, along with Arne Markussen from Polarkonsult A\/S, has worked closely with Arne Erik Hold\u00f8 from Applied Computational Engineering (ACE A\/S), and together they have explored new methods to overcome the challenges encountered in scaling ship resistance from model to full scale.<\/p><p>Traditionally, ship resistance has been studied through scale-model tests. However, this approach encounters challenges, especially in terms of the significant differences that exist between model and full-scale Reynolds numbers. Using modern technology such as Volume Of Fluid (VOF) algorithms and advanced turbulence models, our team has made significant advances in understanding how free surface waves affect both the hull boundary layers and the pressure differences on the hull.<\/p><p>A case study involving an 80-meter cargo ship was selected for the simulations. The results from this study have contributed to the understanding of ship resistance and provided valuable insights that can be used to enhance future ship design.<\/p><p>Polarkonsult A\/S is dedicated to innovation and progress within marine engineering.
